About Appalachian Queen Consulting & PR, LLC
Mandy J. Wriston, PhD
Motivational speaker with an Appalachian twist, writer, and researcher.
The concept of an Appalachian Queen is the result of many hours of consultation with my dissertation chair Dr. Brenda C. Williams, Ed.D. While studying for my doctor of philosophy in global leadership at Indiana Tech, she referred to me as her Appalachian Queen. I had never heard those two concepts in the same sentence. As a result of my studies, I am acutely aware of the strength and resilience of the Appalachian citizen. We all deserve to wear a crown!

Appalachian Queen Consulting and Public Relations, LLC is the product of several conversations with Appalachian citizens who are trying to make a difference in their communities. These people have families and full-time jobs yet find time to participate in volunteer organizations. They expressed a need for assistance with event promotion, grant writing, and content writing. I also volunteer in my community and recognized a need for board consulting services that would provide solid research prior to making decisions on behalf of the organization.
The Appalachian Queen Logo was lovingly crafted by Starry Eyes Media an Appalachian small business. The top of the crown represents the hills of Appalachia and the scenic landscapes of the region. The base of the crown represents the strong physical attachment Appalachians have to the land. The four jewels in the crown represent the strong cultural heritage of the region including a love of family and friends, preservation of land, and appreciation of Appalachian history.

What is Global Leadership Development?
Not all global leaders occupy executive positions. Many Appalachian 21st century global leaders make leadership contributions on a short-term basis while working as team members of global organizations. My research found that Appalachian global leaders think and lead differently than their national and international counterparts.
Appalachian Queen, LLC will offer global leadership development programs with a mission of preparing adults and youth to move Appalachia forward in the 21st century. Curriculum will contain learning objects that are more globally focused. Sessions will focus on issues both inside and outside of the Appalachian region. Attendees will have exposure to different people and cultures outside of the region. The objective of this type of training will facilitate a global mindset to achieve new globally focused organizational missions, vision statements, and policies so that board members, employees, and volunteers of Appalachian organizations become more globally minded.
